About The Robert Burns Poetry Club

Dedicated to celebrating and preserving the legacy of Scotland's national poet.

Our Story

The Robert Burns Poetry Club was founded in 1985 by a group of passionate Burns enthusiasts who wanted to create a community dedicated to celebrating and preserving the works of Scotland's national poet. What began as informal gatherings in a small Edinburgh bookshop has grown into one of the most respected literary societies in Scotland.

For over three decades, we have been bringing together people from all walks of life who share a love for Burns' poetry, songs, and cultural impact. Our club has hosted hundreds of events, from intimate poetry readings to grand Burns Suppers attended by literary figures and Burns scholars from around the world.

Today, we continue to honor Burns' legacy through educational programs, performances, publications, and community events that make his work accessible to new generations and diverse audiences.

Our Mission

The Robert Burns Poetry Club is dedicated to:

  • Preserving and promoting the literary legacy of Robert Burns
  • Creating a welcoming community for poetry enthusiasts of all backgrounds
  • Educating the public about Burns' life, works, and historical context
  • Supporting scholarship and research related to Burns and Scottish literature
  • Fostering an appreciation for poetry and Scottish cultural heritage
  • Providing a platform for contemporary poets inspired by Burns' tradition
